Do you need your Pallet Racking Inspected?

Australian Standards for Pallet Racking AS4084.2012 states that it is a legal requirement for all Pallet Racking to be inspected “at least” every 12 months. This is to ensure your racking system is safe, compliant and that no damage has occurred. Regular safety inspections will give you peace of mind knowing that your staff are working in a safe environment.

How often do you need to inspect your racking?

The Australian Standards specifies that your racking must be inspected every 12 months; however, we highly recommend your racking is inspected on a more regular basis. Weekly or fortnightly inspections may be carried out internally by your warehouse staff, and a formal inspection carried out every 6 or 12 months. This will ensure that any damage from a previous incident is picked up on and resolved quickly.

Who can inspect your racking?

Australian Standard specifies that your racking must be inspected by “a competent” person. It is our belief at United Racking that a competent person should have at least 3 years of experience in the industry, and/or a full understanding of the Australian Standard AS4084.2012

You’re warehouse manager may be extremely experienced in their role however they may not have the knowledge or experience to fully inspect your racking system, therefore it is our view that your racking is inspected by the manufacturer or a United Racking Inspector.

What is included in the inspection?

Damage comes in many varying styles in a warehouse environment and the inspection is designed to pick up anything outside the allowances specified in the Australian Standard. During the inspection, the inspector will be looking at but not limited to the following elements.

  • Correct Installation
  • Missing Components
  • Operational Damage
  • Incorrect Loading
  • Environment Impact (corrosion)

On completion of the inspection, if your racking meets standards you will be supplied with certification stating that your racking system is safe and most importantly compliant. If your racking system does not meet standards our inspector will inform you of how to fix it, anything that does need correcting will need to take place before the certification can be provided.

At United Racking we also set you up with reminders and book in regular inspections every 6 or 12 months for your convenience, otherwise we are happy to discuss with you a ‘once off’ inspection.
